Sandra Boston has taught communication skills and conflict resolution for over 30 years to a wide variety of groups including parents, church societies, social change activists, Ugandan women in village banks, school faculty, staff of social work centers, day care centers, health clinics, retreat centers, coop boards, etc. She has studied Thomas Gordon's Parent Effectiveness Training, Gandhian nonviolence strategies, Marshal Rosenberg's Nonviolent Communication, Arnold Mindell's Process Work, Family Systems Theory, Twelve Step Programs, Margaret Paul's Inner Bonding Therapy, and many others. As a sexuality educator, filmmaker, writer, performing artist and activist, Amy Jo Goddard makes it her life’s mission to help people explore and improve their sexual lives. She travels to colleges, universities, sex-positive communities, and conferences teaching workshops and speaking about sexuality. She is an out faculty member at the City University of New York and advises the brand new, much-needed LGBTQ campus club at BMCC. She teaches medical and nursing students how to perform breast and pelvic exams at most of New York City’s major medical institutions, including Columbia, Cornell and NYU. She is director, producer and co-writer of a forthcoming documentary entitled At Your Cervix (www.atyourcervixmovie.com), a film which depicts this work, and dedicated to making all pelvic exams respectful and pain-free. Her most recent education/empowerment work is her Women’s Sexuality Empowerment Apprenticeship, a program she developed and launched this year, in which she works intensively with women to help them explore, heal, develop and celebrate their own sexuality and sexual potential. She worked for over 12 years with young people, and for many years went into New York’s public schools, coming out to students, teachers and administrators as Queer and talking about how to make schools safer for LGBTQ students. She has utilized her writing, performance and media work to promote feminist sex-positivity and an end to harmful gender roles. She is co-author of Lesbian Sex Secrets for Men, and is a contributing author of All About Sex: A Family Resource Guide on Sex and Sexuality. Her article “Staging Activism,” about queer performance artists and activism was published in 2007 in the Social Justice Journal and she has been published in numerous other publications. Amy Jo was host of CherryBomb.com's web stream program "Fresh Advice,” developing, researching, writing and performing over 60 episodes on women’s sexuality. Katja Esser is a multi-disciplinary artist who inspires through self-expression. She studied fine art in the Netherlands and attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Since 1992 Katja has created sacred ceremonies for the seasons of which the summer solstice of America’s Stonehenge is the most well-known. Katja leads drumming circles, workshops in sound, continuum based movement, maskmaking and ritual. She has studied with maskmaker Eric Bornstein and is part of “Theater Behind the Mask” which is seen annually at First Night Boston, First Night summer events, numerous corporate gigs and “Young Audience” school shows. She appeared at Boston Flower Show as a tree. She performed her mask in collaboration with videographer Gene Hall in a piece called “the Magic of Water in Motion” and with sound artist and musician Ricardo Frota in “the Hidden Life of Trees”. Since 1996 she has been very involved with ritual work with African elder Malidoma Some' which brought her several times to Burkina Faso to deepen the work. Lisa Lotus Brown, MAT, earned her undergraduate degree in Sociology and her masters degree in Social Studies and History. She grew up in Philadelphia and is now an educator in an urban high schoolin Paterson, New Jersey. She has been an activist for most of her life, working for peace, justice and equality. She has worked for ACORN, New Jersey Peace Action, Strengthen Our Sisters, HRC, NAACP, Greenpeace and Clean Water Action. She is co-founder of Highlands Peace Action, an organization that educates and informs local community on peace and justice issues. Lisa has taught classes on The Sociology of Racism and Ethnicity and The History of Racism. She is presently embarking on setting up monthly diversity workshops for the staff at her high school to open up a forum to discuss racism and discrimination. |
